After 16 hours in a plane and about 24 hours after we left for the airport in MSP, I'm thankful to be writing from our hotel in Beijing! The time difference here is 14 hours ahead of Central time, so it feels like 5am even though my watch now says 7 pm.
The day started with some airline induced excitement. We arrived at MSP at about 5am, only to find out that our flight to San Francisco had been cancelled and we were now booked on a connection through Denver that was going to leave in 30 minutes. Thankfully the lines through security went fast and we made the flight. We also only had about 30 minutes in San Francisco to catch our connection to Beijing (which was in another terminal)-- so we got our workout, literally running to make that flight. It was worth it though as the flight was probably less than half full, so we had a row of 7 seats to ourselves to spread out which made the long flight much more tolerable.
Jackson has been a real trooper and excellent traveller. There was only one meltdown about 7 hours into the Beijing flight where he declared that he'd had enough of this China trip and wanted to go home. He didn't sleep on the plane but once we got to Beijing he was lights out.
We met up with the other 10 families adopting children through our adoption agency and our guide/translator. The plan for tomorrow is guided whirl-wind sight-seeing around Beijing (Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, summer palace), with more touring on Sunday, then each family will head to the Province where there child is located on Monday for Gotcha day!
